About Us

The Center for Child Behavior’s goal is to elevate the standard of behavioral health care for families — offering support that is clear, collaborative, and designed to fit real life.

Dr. Emily L. Gault, PhD

(Formerly Robertson)

“The quality of our relationships is one of the strongest predictors of overall well-being and long-term fulfillment in adults and children. There is no better investment than our families”

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of the Center for Child Behavior, a practice dedicated to helping families navigate child behavior challenges with clarity, calm, and confidence.

After working in academic and clinical settings, I saw a consistent gap between what clinical research shows is most effective for improving difficult child behaviors and what families often receive in therapy.

I founded this practice in early 2023 to bridge this gap. We use decades of clinical research in child development and mental health, as well as our 10 years experience working with families to develop and refine the Parent Steps Program.

“Many parents share that what works for one child doesn’t seem to work for another. The reality is that children with behavior problems tend to respond to certain strategies better than others. I love helping parents learn how to implement those and see how much of a difference it can make.

Why the focus on working with parents?

Lasting change in child behavior happens in the home—where behavior occurs every day. Parents are in the best position to create that change.

Traditional models that focus on meeting with a child for one hour per week represent only a small fraction of a child’s life. Meaningful improvement requires consistent, day-to-day support within the home (and sometimes school) environment.

When parents are given the right tools, change becomes not only possible—but sustainable.

With the right tools, you will:

  • Reduce daily stress and power struggles

  • Support your child’s emotional regulation

  • Build cooperation and respect

  • Strengthen your parent-child relationship

  • Feel confident and effective as a parent
