Price varies depending on needs.

Diagnostic Second Opinions

Price varies depending on needs.

A psychoeducational evaluation or diagnostic assessments can provide clear answers about your child’s functioning, and why they may have certain challenges. These evaluations include IQ testing, academic testing, clinical/medical interview with parents/teacher, and standardized questionnaires. Our evaluations are comprehensive and include assessing for a variety of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and learning concerns. At the end of the evaluation, parents receive a report with results and recommendations for the child in school or treatment recommendations, if applicable. Parents can then provide the report to the school, pediatrician, or mental health provider to facilitate getting help for their child. See evaluation process below.

Please note that Dr. Robertson IS ADOS-2 certified and can provide a comprehensive evaluation for childhood autism.

A diagnostic second opinion can be vital for some children and families who have received conflicting results and want a second opinion. Determine what your child’s current functioning and needs are with a comprehensive evaluation. These evaluations include IQ testing, academic testing, clinical/medical interview with parents/teacher, and standardized questionnaires. At the end of the evaluation, parents receive a report with results and recommendations for the child in school or treatment recommendations, if applicable, as well as any clarifications on medication recommendations. Parents can then provide the report to the school, pediatrician, or mental health provider to facilitate getting help for their child. See evaluation process below.

Gifted Testing

$695

Gifted testing is an assessment of a child’s intellectual abilities. This testing involves the psychologist administering an IQ test and writing a report with results and recommendations. This testing is appropriate if parents want to enroll their child in a gifted program or school. We only use the most up-to-date standardized tests which are the tests that are accepted by Sarasota and Manatee county schools.

Specializations

Testing and evaluations are tailored and personalized to each family's needs and are conducted in 4 steps outlined below. When the comprehensive assessment is completed, parents receive a 7-15 page detailed report outlining testing, results, and, if applicable, treatment and school recommendations for the child, family, and school. We are dedicated to providing the family with their report quickly and no later than 3 weeks after finishing testing. Gifted testing reports are shorter than comprehensive reports and results are delivered in 1-2 days in most cases.

We specialize in the assessment of the following:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD)

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

  • Conduct Disorder (CD), including those with Limited Prosocial Emotions or callous-unemotional (CU) traits

  • Learning Problems

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Mood Disorders

  • Developmental concerns including Intellectual Disability

  • Gifted testing

Assessment Process

  • 15-20 minute complimentary consultation to ensure a good fit

  • Caregivers send previous testing reports, treatment summaries, and other documentation to psychologist who reviews all documentation to prepare for Family Appointment #1.

Family Appointment #1: 1-2 hour session including clinical interview, medical history, areas of concern. Only caregivers attend this appointment.

Psychologist designs testing battery, if applicable, based on concerns discussed and sends questionnaires to parents and teachers. Testing battery may include IQ and academic achievement testing, behavioral assessments, clinical questionnaires (parent, child, teacher), and additional neuropsychological tests, among others.

Family Appointment #2: 2-3 hours of testing with child, appointment may be broken into two sessions depending on the age and abilities of the child.

Psychologist receives questionnaires from parents and teachers and, if necessary, conducts phone or Telehealth interview with teacher.

  • Psychologist scores all tests/questionnaires, integrates all sources of data/clinical interviews, and interprets results of assessment.

Psychologist writes 7-15 page report outlining results and recommendations.

  • Family Appointment #3: 1 hour feedback appointment with caregivers where the psychologist summarizes test results and describe recommendations for treatment. Caregivers will also have plenty of time to ask questions. This meeting will occur approximately 2-4 weeks after testing is completed dep. ding on complexity of the case. However, any delay in receiving parent or teacher questionnaires will delay this timeline.

Within 1-2 business days of the Family Appointment #3 (feedback), psychologist will send the report to the caregivers who will then have the opportunity to share the report with the school or other healthcare professionals. It is up to the family who they decide to share the report with.

Please note…

Mental health or neurodevelopment disorders like ADHD or ADD should not be diagnosed with only brief screener like those sometimes given in a doctor’s office. These screening tools were designed to highlight the need for further assessment, not to diagnosis on its own. If you are being offered this service as a way to diagnosis your child or have already received a diagnosis using only a screening questionnaire, please note this does not follow clinical guidelines. For example, the guidelines set forth by the Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics for the diagnosis of ADHD include a comprehensive assessment to rule out other reasons a child may appear to have challenges with attention or hyperactivity. There are many reasons why a child may appear to have challenges like inattention or hyperactivity including anxiety, trauma, learning concerns, conduct problems, seizures, and certain medications, among others. Therefore, it is important we provide an evaluation that follows research-backed guidelines that assesses all of these concerns to ensure an accurate diagnosis which will result in the best outcome for your child and family. An inaccurate diagnosis will lead to unhelpful treatment recommendations.
