Her story

From academic research to the families who needed it most

Dr. Emily Gault, PhD (formerly Robertson) is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in evidence-based therapy and psychological assessment for children and families. After years of research and clinical work in academic settings, she left academia to found the Center for Child Behavior, a practice built to bring research-backed behavioral interventions directly to the families who need them.

With a decade of clinical and research experience in child behavior challenges, her focus is improving compliance, listening, prosocial behavior, and emotion regulation, while reducing family stress and conflict and strengthening the parent-child relationship.

While she works with families across the full range of severity, from minor to severe challenges, her specialty is helping families of children with ADHD and related behavioral concerns, particularly parents who are committed to rebuilding the relationship in order to earn their child's trust and cooperation.

PhD in Clinical Psychology

Licensed clinical child psychologist with specialized training in evidence-based assessment and treatment for children and families. Earned her PhD from Louisiana State University, trained by world-renowned expert in child behavioral challenges (ODD, Conduct Disorder, ADHD), Dr. Paul Frick, PhD.

Completed Additional Postdoctoral Training

Awarded a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship by the National Institutes of Health to continue testing clinical trials, therapies, and other interventions for children and families with ADHD.

Author and co-author of scientific publications and a book chapter spanning various topics in the assessment and treatment of child behavioral concerns, including childhood ADHD, oppositional behavior, and conduct problems.

Has worked in research on these topics for 13 years, including having worked as a Research Professor at Florida International University, conducting research on childhood ADHD, oppositional behavior, conduct problems, and Limited Prosocial Emotions (callous-unemotional traits), and presenting at national and international conferences.

10 years

Direct clinical practice

Trained under world-renowned expert in child behavioral concerns Dr. Paul Frick, PhD at Louisiana State University, and completed residency at the Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami's medical school. Worked directly with families of children with ADHD and related behavioral challenges, developing and refining the sequential framework now taught as The Parent Steps.

Today

Center for Child Behavior

Dr. Emily opened her private practice in 2023 and has provided in-person and telehealth comprehensive assessments, as well as Behavioral Parent Training and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, for families in Florida. Since 2023, she has developed and evaluated The Parent Steps, which pulls from standard behavioral parent training strategies but implemented in a specific order and with a particular nuance she's found most effective for families. The Parent Steps program has an approximate 85% success rate. She recently began The Parent Steps newsletter, bringing the same clinical framework to families who aren't yet ready for the full program.

Outside the practice

Beyond the office

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Emily spends her time with her husband, dogs, and daughter, along with playing pickleball, staying active, and growing a vegetable garden. She's also enjoying building her no-cost newsletter, where she writes about various parenting strategies and ways of living.
